Erasmus+ is a program of the European Union that supports international education, youth exchanges, internships, volunteering, and sports activities. Its main goal is to connect young people from different countries, develop their skills, and promote European cooperation.
Erasmus+ offers the opportunity to go abroad – not only for university studies, but also for youth exchanges, training courses, volunteering projects, or professional internships. Simply put – if you are between 13 and 30 years old, there's a good chance there’s an Erasmus+ project just for you.
One of the biggest advantages of Erasmus+ is that most of the costs are covered by the European Union. If you take part in a youth exchange or training, you usually get:
reimbursed travel costs (up to a limit based on distance),
accommodation,
meals during the entire project,
and often a shared program, excursions, and free-time activities.
Thanks to this, you can participate even if you'd otherwise not be able to afford such a trip. That’s one of the reasons why Erasmus+ is so accessible and important – it gives opportunities to truly everyone.
Experiences from Erasmus+ can have a huge impact on participants’ lives. The program can help you:
improve your language skills (especially English),
become more independent and confident,
learn how to communicate and collaborate in an international environment,
understand different cultures and ways of life,
build friendships with people from all over Europe (and beyond),
discover new interests or future paths,
and last but not least, enjoy unforgettable adventures.
On this page, I share my own experiences with Erasmus+ projects, especially youth exchanges I’ve personally taken part in. I describe each project in detail – what happened there, how it worked, what the atmosphere was like, what I learned, and what I would recommend to others who want to join, too.
You’ll find articles, photos, videos, and practical tips that might help you if you want to give it a try yourself.
Maybe you're wondering if Erasmus+ is for you. The answer is almost certainly: yes. It doesn’t matter where you're from, how much money you have, or whether you speak perfect English. What matters is a willingness to try something new, an open mind to other cultures, and a desire to learn.
Whether you want to experience your first stay abroad or are already looking for your next adventure, Erasmus+ can be a great start.
Below, you’ll find specific projects I’ve joined – take a look and get inspired!
